When you sit down with your real estate agent to discuss the area you want to move to, you want to try to be as specific as possible. You also want to make sure you know exactly what you do want and don't want ahead of time. Here are some of the things that you should consider about locations and home buying:
Make sure you end up in the right setting– When you are considering a house, you want to make sure you end up near the things you want and away from anything that may present problems for you. If you want peace and quiet, then you will want to choose between something like a rural setting, a quiet residential neighborhood away from industrial areas or even a nice golf course community with mostly retired households.
Try to cut down on your commute time – You should try to choose a location that's as close as you can get to the places that you and your family need to go to everyday, such as your workplaces. The more you can cut back on your commute time, the less gas money you will burn each day and the more time you will have left over to put toward other things like family time, sleeping, etc. If you have to move a bit away from certain places then you should make sure you move where there are streets or highways that tend to have less traffic on them so you won't find yourself stuck for hours in rush hour traffic each day.
Do your best to stay away from nuisances – Know the things that will bother you and make sure you tell your real estate agent to show you homes not near these things. For example, if you are an avid gardener that doesn't want to worry about deer then you won't want to buy a home situated too close to hills or other areas where deer will easily wander into your garden and destroy it.
Know the type of housing you want – One of the most important things for you to express to your real estate agent is the type of home you want. You may want a single family home in a residential neighborhood, a ranch style home with waterfront property, a condominium in a large condo community or a conservative mobile home in a 55+ mobile home community. The agent will need to know this in order to search for the best homes to show you that will prove to be a good fit for you.
